What’s in a Label? Thinking about Diversity and Racial Categories
A Conversation With Ann Su
Tuesday, January 30, 5:30 – 7 pm, Wille Hall, Coats Campus Center, COCC Bend Campus
As humans, we constantly label and categorize information on both conscious and unconscious levels. Labeling enables our brains to sort information efficiently, but the labels and categories we assign to information can form generalizations and stereotypes in our minds. Ann Su, public interest lawyer, community activist and social justice advocate, will facilitate the conversation exploring how the words we choose influence our understanding of race and racial diversity.
Collaborators with the Office of Diversity and Inclusion include COCC Foundation’s Visiting Scholar Program, Associated Students of COCC, Oregon Humanities, Brooks Resources, Deschutes Cultural Coalition, OSU-Cascade Student Fee Committee and Towne Place Suites by Marriott.
