Information Literacy Sessions

A COCC librarian will visit your class (in-person on any COCC campus or online) to present an instruction session custom-tailored to your assignments and needs. Information literacy (IL) sessions can cover finding academically acceptable sources, evaluating information, and more.

Accessibility

We know you're working hard to make your courses accessible!

We've collected (and are constantly updating) a page with information about the accessibility of library resources.

We also have a few tips on using the Library to find accessible resources.

Copyright Guide

The Library provides access to millions of resources you can share with your students by linking or embedding in Canvas, or by providing pedagogically relevant selections under the doctrine of Fair Use, the TEACH Act, or the terms of open licenses.

If these terms aren't familiar to you, or if you have other copyright/Fair Use questions, check out our Copyright Resources guide

Course Reserves

Our Course Reserves service allows you to make copies of your course's textbook (or other materials) available to your students.

Open Educational Resources (OER)

Open resources are texts and multimedia materials with a Creative Commons or similar license. These licenses allow your students to access and use the materials for free without violating copyright. Many open resources can be customized, redistributed, and printed at low or no cost.

To start your search for open resources, visit the Library's OER Guide.

Order Books & AV Materials

We reserve a portion of the Library budget for every program area at COCC to support buying materials for our permanent collection. If there are things you need, let us know!

Research Guides

In the Resources by Subject guides, Barber Librarians have curated materials specific to every discipline taught at COCC. Each guide covers key encyclopedias, article databases, books, and multimedia materials relevant to college-level research in the field.

Streaming Videos

The Library's streaming video databases provide thousands of educational videos, documentaries, classic films, and more. Show them in class or embed the videos in Canvas for your students to view anytime, anywhere.

If you have questions about acquiring streaming media for instructional use or converting physical media to digital media (under very specific use cases), see our Streaming Video for Instruction page for more information.

eLearning Technology Lending

The eLearning Department has provided a collection of technology items for Faculty to help you with both in-person and online instruction. Pick items up at the Circulation Desk, and ask eLearning if you need any help learning how to use these items effectively.

LibKey Nomad

LibKey Nomad is a browser add-on that alerts you to library content availability or requestability no matter when you start your search. It works on sites like academic publisher websites, Google Scholar, and PubMed. Read more and learn how to install (it's easy!).
