Hello,

One of the many hats I wear at Central Oregon Community College, other than Psychology professor, is administering the Indonesian Field Study Program. Each summer, I try to take a cohort of COCC students with me to the island of Java to participate in an immersive training program, along with Indonesian students, to learn how to conduct conservation-related research in a field setting. At the end of the field course, participating students then immediately apply what they have learned to a global health-related outreach project in Indonesia, working with 3rd and 4th grade students from local schools.

We are very excited this year to bring back the program and its many opportunities. After a two-year break due to the pandemic, this high-impact learning opportunity is returning summer 2023. As you might imagine, our students' biggest barrier is cost. Studying abroad is an expensive investment. In an effort to create more equity so that this opportunity is available to all COCC students, and not just a privileged few, we are conducting a fundraising campaign. The money raised will be used to offset the costs of $5,000-6,000 per student. This includes the program fee of $2,850, tuition (12 credits, in-district $1,356), and travel, which historically has been anywhere between $800 and $1,900.

I hope you will consider donating. Thank you for your support of student success at COCC.

Regards,
Matthew
