Dates

Travel to Indonesia will take place July 9th-August 6th, 2024.

Full Itinerary

Prerequisite and post-requisite courses will take place in Spring and Fall.

Costs

The program fee of $2,850 includes:

  • Administrative and Operating Expenses
  • All necessary transportation while in Indonesia (airport pick-up/drop-off, transportation to/from Cagar Alum Pangandaran
  • Housing (hotel-modest accomodations) in Bogor before and after our stay at the field site
  • Field-housing and all meals while at Cacar Alum Pangandaran (field conditions, primitive accomodations)

The program fee does not include:

  • Airfare
  • Travel documents (passport, Indonesia entry visa)
  • Immunizations
  • Health/travel insurance
  • Meals while not at Cagar Alum Pangandaran
  • Special food items
  • Optional side trips and non-program activities (e.g., sightseeing/shopping, rental car costs, other related fees)
  • Course material (books, supplies)
  • Pocket money
  • Tips (tipping is not needed in most restaurants, hotels, or taxis)
  • COCC course tuition fees for PSY 261/262/263, the Indonesian Field Study Courses
  • Cultural excursion to Central Java (Prambanan, Borobudur, Yogyjakarta)

Courses & Academic Credit

Spring Term-PSY 261 Indonesian Field Study I
Preparation to Study Abroad (3 credits)

Prepares students for international field research training about conservation, sustainability and biodiversity. Topics include Indonesian culture, history and language. Students will develop and design a conservation related field research project that will be conducted in Indonesia.

Summer Term-PSY 262 Indonesian Field Study II
Global Health: Field Training and Research (6 credits)

This course is conducted in Indonesia. It provides hands-on field research training and outreach experiences related to international conservation, sustainability and biodiversity. Student projects developed in PSY 261 are conducted.

Fall Term Term-PSY 263 Indonesian Field Study III
Communicating Indonesian Field Experience (3 credits)

Summarize, reflect and discuss experiences with international field study and field research techniques completed in PSY 262 in Indonesia. Includes formal and informal presentation styles; discusses oral, written and visual formats for scientific communication.

Eligibility

A maximum of 10 participants will be accepted for this program. Instructor approval is required. Prospective participants must be at least 18 years of age.
