Anthony Alegria
With a resume that includes working beneath the ocean's surface, Anthony "Tony" Alegria
is now turning his sights on a career in the sky. The former underwater welder is
earning a professional airplane pilot degree in the Aviation program, with the goal of working for a major airline carrier.
A retired U.S. Marine sergeant, Alegria says his airbase service inspired him to become
a pilot. He plans to initially become a flight instructor locally, then attend the
Oregon Institute of Technology for a bachelor's degree in operational management.
"One of Tony's most admirable qualities is his unwavering perseverance, which is reflected
not only in his academic achievements but also in his role as a veteran," says past
Veterans Certifying official Sue Pierce. "His service to our country has instilled
in him a sense of responsibility, leadership and a strong work ethic, all of which
he carries into his studies."
Conducting a work-study position with COCC's Veterans department, Alegria has maintained
a 4.0 GPA and demonstrated an unwavering commitment to high standards — earning him
one of three spots on COCC's 2024 All-Oregon Academic Team.
