How to Provide Placement

Degree seeking students must provide math and writing placement as part of the enrollment process.

Non-degree seeking students can take math and writing placement to satisfy course prerequisites.

I have a degree

Provide Transcripts to Admissions and Records

Note you may still need to take a Placement Assessment

I have college math or writing credits

Provide Transcripts to Admission & Records

Note you may still need to take a Placement Assessment

Note that we only accept college degree, coursework, and placement results from accredited colleges.

What other ways can I provide Placement?

I have completed a placement assessment in the last two years at another college or university.

Send your math and writing placement score report(s) to welcome@cocc.edu and our Admissions & Records department will review them. Processing generally takes three business days. If your scores are transferrable to COCC you will receive placement levels for both math and writing. If you can only provide placement scores for one of the subject areas, you will be required to complete the placement process for the other area.

Note: Placement scores must be within the last two years from an accredited college or university.

I have completed my GED in Oregon within the last two years.

Did you earn your GED in Oregon in the last two years? If you scored a 165 or better on Mathematical Reasoning and/or Reasoning Through Language Arts, that score can serve as your placement for math and/or writing. Email your official GED score report (which you can download for free from your GED.com account) to welcome@cocc.edu. If you scored 165 in one area but not the other, you'll need to proceed with the DSP to get your placement score for the other area. Questions? Give us a call at 541-383-7200 before you take this assessment.

I have completed a Smarter Balanced Assessment in the last two years.

If you scored a 3 or 4 in Math and/or Writing on your Smarter Balanced Assessment, send your Smarter Balanced score report to welcome@cocc.edu and our Admissions & Records department will review them. Processing generally takes three business days. If your scores are transferrable to COCC you will receive placement levels for both math and writing. If you have placement scores for one of the subject areas, you will be required to complete the placement process for the other area.

Note: Your Smarter Balanced scores must be from your 12th grade high school year.
